Newfound Hobby

I guess the natural progression for the love of photography, design and writing would be to put it all together in the mix: book-making. I remember making my own little book with drawings and all for my teacher in 3rd grade. It was about Popeye and how spinach makes you strong. I still wish to this day I had kept it for myself.

Recently, I put together a book using the Blurb program about my recent trip to Peru. I was excited from day one: something about envisioning how an organized puzzle of photo pieces and words should fit together gets me going. It took me one week to send it off to print; I worked on it at least 4 hours a day. It was something to look forward to.

When I received the copies in the mail, I was a little disappointed in that the photographs came out a little darker than I expected and I had a couple of typos, but other than that I was well pleased with the physical manifestation.

A preview of the book can be found here: http://www.blurb.com/books/532896.

Another short one is in the works, but I’ve been engrossed with another book project for one of our clients. I have to honestly say, its not the same if you’re not working with your own art but it’s still fun to patch it together. I’m thinking my next book should be about the preservation of Polaroids, literally. Maybe I won’t include words; just one Polaroid on each page. They should speak for themselves. We’ll see. This newfound hobby is going to bring me great ideas and inspiration.
